About The Event

 The conference will explore current issues on the role of courts in democracy and minority rights. It will discuss the theoretical framework and analyze the issues globally with special emphasis on the Israeli case in a comparative perspective. The conference will examine, for example, the following issues: Israel and models of democracy; Judicial review in Israel: A comparative study; Supreme Courts under attack; Law and religion in the Supreme Court; Women and equality rights; Constitutional anchoring of minority rights, language and symbols; Freedom of expression and minorities; Political, economic and civil participation of minorities; Policing and minorities; The intersection of family rights, Supreme Court and religious courts.
